Research Stream Leader: A/Prof. Alex Fornito

Stream Leader, Alex Fornito

Research in the Systems Neuroscience stream aims to understand the network organization of the brain. We do this by using diverse brain imaging methods to map how different parts of the brain connect to each other, and to understand how these patterns of connectivity influence brain function in both health and mental illness.

Key Approaches

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), including functional MRI and diffusion MRI
  • Positron Emission Tomography
  • Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation
  • Electroencephalography
  • Mathematical modelling of network organization using graph theory and biophysical models
  • Multivariate data analysis
  • Molecular and behavioural genetics
  • Cognitive and behavioural assessments
